Wellfleet is excited to announce a new partnership with NIRSA: Leaders in Collegiate Recreation to help campuses adopt systems-based approaches that improve student health and well-being. As part of its Campus Health 360 strategy, Wellfleet actively seeks opportunities to collaborate with organizations that share its commitment to supporting healthier campus communities. One such opportunity is this partnership with the NIRSA Wellbeing Collaborative pilot program.
As highlighted in another article in this month’s Campus Health 360 newsletter, exercise is one of the most powerful tools we have to enhance health and wellness—often more impactful than any medication. We’re proud to work with NIRSA to advance this important initiative, and improve student health, well-being, and recreation.
About NIRSA
NIRSA: Leaders in Collegiate Recreation is a professional association dedicated to advancing campus recreation, well-being, and sport in higher education. Founded in 1950, NIRSA represents thousands of members across colleges and universities, including professionals, students, and partner organizations. The association provides education, research, and networking opportunities while setting standards and best practices for campus recreation. NIRSA emphasizes the essential role of recreation in supporting student success, leadership development, health, and inclusive community building—making it an invaluable resource for those working to elevate the collegiate experience.
The Initiative
Through this partnership, NIRSA has invited Wellfleet to co-launch a high-impact initiative supporting campus recreation departments in embedding well-being into their culture, operations, and strategy. The pilot will bring together four institutions in a community of practice designed to strengthen the use of systems-based improvement.
The initiative will leverage NIRSA’s Recreation for Wellbeing online course as the foundation for learning, provide guided coaching from members of NIRSA’s Health & Well-being Advisory Group, and disseminate key insights through the NIRSA Promising Practices model.
Since 2021, NIRSA’s Promising Practices have highlighted collaborative and integrated well-being efforts led by campus recreation staff and leaders. Traditionally, these resources included a teaser video, a detailed narrative PDF, and a webinar. Looking ahead, NIRSA plans to capture schools’ real-time learning journeys rather than polished end products—showcasing progress and lessons learned as they unfold. The pilot’s small, structured community of practice, supported by expert coaches, will help bring this vision to life.
Our Goal
Campus Health 360 was designed to improve healthcare and well-being outcomes for entire student populations. Importantly, its reach goes beyond Wellfleet members—we aim to broadly impact campuses by sharing expertise in college health, offering proven tools and resources, and fostering collaborations that drive meaningful change. We look forward to kicking off this collaboration with NIRSA in the coming weeks—and to sharing updates along the way.
