At Wellfleet, we’re continually seeking new ways to help students access the healthcare they need. That’s why we built WellFinder, our digital care navigation tool that simplifies the process of finding the right care.
WellFinder asks students about their health needs and care preferences and then directs them to the appropriate options based on their situation. WellFinder aims to help reduce the barriers students face when accessing care, including knowing all their care options and figuring out where to go.
In this blog, learn more about WellFinder and how it’s improving the care navigation experience for our student health insurance members.
What is WellFinder?
Accessible through the Wellfleet Student mobile app, WellFinder guides student members through a series of prompts. Depending on how they answer the questions, they’re directed to the care option that best suits their healthcare needs.
Through WellFinder and our other mobile app features, students can find the appropriate provider, estimate their cost of care, access telehealth options, and schedule appointments with a few additional clicks.
Learn how Wellfleet’s Cost of Care tool helps students budget for their care and make informed decisions prior to receiving care.
Benefits of WellFinder
By providing a tool for students to navigate their care needs, we aim to:
- Simplify the healthcare process
- Improve health outcomes for students
- Reduce costs of care by connecting students with in-network and lower-cost care options
WellFinder helps address their current healthcare needs and aligns with their preferences.
Students who understand what their plan covers and how to find care are more likely to:1
- Receive preventative services
- Seek in-network care
- Pursue behavioral healthcare
- Know how and when to request emergency services
How to access WellFinder
The WellFinder digital tool is available for all members of our student health insurance plans. Our members can currently access WellFinder through our Wellfleet mobile app, which is available for iOS and Android devices.
How WellFinder integrates with care options on and off campus
The tool integrates with the care options available on campus, through the provider network, and virtually, directing student members to services such as:
- An on-campus student health center or counseling center, if available
- In-network hospitals and providers
- Urgent care facilities
- Telehealth and virtual care options, if available through the plan or school, such as:
- Nurseline, a 24/7 hotline with a registered nurse
- Teladoc, a telehealth platform for medical and behavioral health appointments
- CareConnect, a 24/7 behavioral health hotline and resource center
- SilverCloud, a self-guided digital behavioral health tool
What makes WellFinder so valuable for students is that it integrates with the specific options available with each student’s health plan and campus resources. That means students get personalized recommendations that are specific to their situation.
WellFinder real-life example
For example, let’s say Nicole is a college student struggling with anxiety as she deals with the stress of the end of the semester. She would like to talk to someone about how she’s feeling, but she’s not sure where to turn.
She has health insurance through her school’s Wellfleet plan, so she opens her Wellfleet Student app and clicks into the WellFinder tool. The tool walks her through a few questions. She specifies that she prefers to meet with someone in person rather than virtually, so WellFinder recommends she visit her on-campus counseling center and provides a link to the website.
Nicole calls the counseling center and sets up an appointment with a counselor. She starts meeting with the counselor regularly, and she feels relieved to have a trusted person to talk to about what she’s struggling with.
In this way, WellFinder can help students connect with the medical and behavioral healthcare options that can help them feel their best.
